Welcome to the Clements Creations and Woodworking website!dad

It is on this site you will find my handcrafted decoys. My interest in carvers such as R. Madison Mitchell, William Heverin, Wendall Gilley, Delbert “Cigar” Daisey, Gilmore “Butch” Wagoner, Bruce Burk, and the Ward Brothers took me on my adventure to become a self-taught decoy carver. Carving simply began as a hobby, but quickly turned into a lifestyle when I began carving in 2005.

After retirement I was inspired to take my love of the outdoors, its natural resources, and the love of woodworking to create carved and canvas decoys.

I fashion hand crafted decoys using the techniques performed by the early 20th century wildfowl hunters of America. All my decoys have an antique finish, creating a rustic appearance.

Carved decoys are created from natural basswood, white cedar, and traditional hand tools.

Canvas Covered Decoys were popular around the Eastern shore area and the Carolinas. Because of the lack of good carving wood, decoy makers in this region used small amounts of wood combined with wire and canvas to fashion a decoy that would get the job done.

Silhouette Cutouts and Slat Wood Geese Decoys were another construction typical of the New England area. These types of decoys were shot over in that locality for over one hundred and fifty years.

Ice/Spear Fishing Decoys are crafted the traditional way using basswood, cedar, walnut or cherry wood. This type of fishing decoy has been used for many years in the northern States during the ice fishing season.
